2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 870 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 15 trips to carry that many people.

Enjoying the Seasons | Portraits of Nature in Evergreen Colorado

Wildflowers Hiwan Homestead Evergreen Colorado

I’m making time to stop and see the beautiful flowers that are blooming like mad all over town.

Hiking through the parks and along the sweet walking paths around the Lake and downtown, there are so many gorgeous blooms. Summer is so short here – I’m glad they’re really coming out in force this year – and I’m appreciating every day of it.

What can you do for yourself today to honor the season you’re experiencing today? Visit a farmer’s market, dust off the bike and take it for a spin, lay in the hammock and pay no attention to the time, set up the sprinkler and embarrass the kids in front of the neighborhood… However you choose to pass the time, I truly hope you find the gift in every day you live.

Good food, great friends – thanks to each of you who could make it and to the many of you who were there in spirit.

It was such a special event – can’t wait until the next show! xo

Special thanks to my family for all your last-minute help and to my studio mates for all their help in making this happen – Annie and Tamie – you’re the best!  ❤

Mini Muse Sessions | Art Portrait Photographer in Evergreen Colorado

Snow Ballerina Muse Evergreen

Introducing Muse Mini Sessions

Your feedback to the Muse Sessions (www.muse-sessions.com) has been amazing and heart-warming. It means so much to me that this concept connects to so many of you – the idea of taking our time together to a higher level and capturing images that tell a story and let YOU tell your story. I love it.

Our recent gallery show had a great turn out – I loved seeing each and every one of you there and appreciate that you came out for our Muses. ♥

I believe this is so important and such a soul-strengthening experience, I want to make Muse Sessions accessible to more people – everyone who loves this should be able to experience it. I’ve created a couple of options to make it easier to say ‘Heck ya, Katy-lady – sign me up!’

1. Payment Plans. Break up payments to work with your budget. Whether that means 2 – or more – payments, we will accommodate.

2. Mini Muse Sessions! These are slightly shorter Muse sessions and – while you’ll still get amazing attention and images – the goodies are trimmed down and your gallery show will be with more ladies. But perhaps these are perks for you?

These Mini Muse Sessions will run on a trial-basis through Summer and their availability will be limited to no more than 2 sessions/week. If I find they’re not a good fit, I’ll take ’em off the menu!  These would be a great idea for our high school ladies – you’re growing quickly and you’ll be off into the big ol’ world before we know it. These are also great for our sweet ‘Tweens – just blossoming out of childhood and finding your voices. These sessions strive to capture the moment now and tell a beautiful story that will be treasured by her – and her family – for a lifetime.

Sessions are booking now, starting in mid-July through late September.

Conformity is Absolutely Impossible | Muse Portrait Photography Sessions in Evergreen, Colorado

Ballet Dancer in Boots in the Trees Outside in Nature

YOU are one of a kind.

There is ONLY ONE of you on this Earth.

— Conformity is absolutely impossible —

It is your time to be you.

Shine on, sistah soulja.

—————————

I heard a teacher say that if we choose not to honor our uniqueness – that thing that makes us special and different, we are creating a resistance. And so much resistance that the energy it takes to stop the natural flow is incredible. A HUGE amount of energy is used in stopping us from being our true selves. Wow.

If we can realize when we’re throwing up blocks and instead turn it around and use that energy to nurture ourselves and our uniqueness, imagine how truly awesome that would be. A billion amazing souls sharing their gifts with each other.

I’m in! You with me?

We need to make some t-shirts to show we’re a part of the non-conformity club. 🙂

Are You Hiding Too?| Muse Portrait Sessions in Evergreen, Colorado.

Hiding behind a hand

This past weekend I was at a fundraiser event for my children’s school.  I donated a Muse Session for the live auction (and it did great! so pleased and love helping to support a great cause).

During the event another mom came over to talk to me about it and said, jokingly, “You’d have to photograph me while I’m ironing or folding clothes or something.”

While I do realize that, on a certain level, she was joking, it still hit my heart.

This touches on what many of us think about ourselves:

We’re ordinary.

We are the things we do – ironing, cleaning, our 9-5 job, grocery shopping, driving kids around town, supporting them at their various sporting events.

We question our worth and our specialness.

We find it easier to just go with the flow, do what needs to be done, do what the world expects of us.

We feel good about it because we’re fitting a mold and being a good citizen.

And this is commendable.

But ( you knew there was a but), is it living your whole truth? Are you taking advantage of your God-given gifts? Your talents? What you love to do?

Or are those things being put aside, waiting for kids to get older, waiting to have more time?

Or maybe that was just something that you were only meant to do when you were younger? Now you’re just too old and need to give up on those wild-youth dreams. Water under the bridge, etc.

While I’m not going to tell you to give up your current life – drop everything and go chase your dream!! I won’t say that, because you are where you are now for a reason. You’ve made a series of choices that brings you where you are at this moment and that has value and should be honored.

But I will ask you to rethink (RETHINK) the idea that what you love should take a backseat, feeling like it needs to wait for another time and another place to exist.

Bring the special things back into your day. Think about what you love to do and what you have loved to do.

Think about what you were doing when you felt time fly by, while you were absolutely consumed with joy.

Maybe you need to travel back in time a bit further than you thought to pull up those feelings. Grabbing a paper and pen and writing anything that comes to mind may help you pull your thoughts together.

Now think about that special thing and about how you can PULL IT BACK INTO YOUR LIFE, EVEN ON A VERY SMALL SCALE. It doesn’t have to be reasonable or make sense, just let your heart have some time and attention to tell you what it wants. Immediately take action.

Right now create a chunk of time to make this happen in the next 24 hours. Make a plan to bring your magic back. You can borrow my wand if you want. 😉  Seriously, get creative here. There are many nooks and crannies of time hiding in our days. Reserve one of those for taking care of this.

If you’re ready to move forward and to shine yourself a little brighter you’ll find a way to make it happen. Obstacles and excuses will melt away.

Go get ’em. Here’s to the first step.

I’d love to hear about what you love…..   Dancing, writing, walking with friends, traveling, getting back to nature, telling stories, teaching, painting?….

Please share with me in the comments below (you may have to click on the title above to make the comments visible).
